2008Agnes C. Shulkey, 91, of Stanley, N.D., died Monday, January 21, 2008, in a Stanley hospital.

Agnes Christine Shulkey was born November 24, 1916, in Tagus, N.D., to Knut and Aasta (Hallen) Asmundson. She was raised in Tagus and attended Viola School.

On October 17, 1938, she married Thomas H. Lunde. To this union two children were born: Norlene and Thomas. Following Thomas? death on September 13, 1942, she continued to make Tagus her home, raising her children and operating a boarding house for teachers and students.

On July 12, 1947, she married Fred J. Shulkey. To this union one child, Judy, was born. They made their home in Tagus until 1969, when they moved into Stanley. For many years, Agnes worked at My Lady?s Dress Shop and Borseth?s Department Store in Stanley. Following her retirement she volunteered her time at the Mountrail Bethel Home in Stanley. Fred died on November 5, 1991.

Agnes was a member of American Lutheran Church, Stanley. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking and caring for her home. She especially cherished her neighbors and took time to help them whenever asked. She also enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Agnes is survived by: her daughters, Norlene Tchida (James) of Florence, Ariz., and Judy Johnson (Gary) of Stanley; sisters, Nora Asmundson and Annie Kjellberg, both of Tagus; grandchildren, Sheri Meier, Jill Wright, Thomas Lunde, Lynette Lalim and LaRae Kemp; great-grandchildren, Landon Van Buskirk, Amanda Chilcoat, Thomas Lunde and Nickolai Lunde.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Thomas and Fred; son, Thomas; brothers, Halvor, Nickolai, Henry, Asmun and Richard; and sister, Emma Schultz.

Funeral: Friday, January 25, 2008, at 2 p.m. in American Lutheran Church, Stanley.

Visitation: Today, January 24, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to noon in Springan Funeral Home, Stanley.
