Mayor of Cincinnati. Born in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, he came to Cincinnati, Ohio and became president of the Miami Exporting Company. A member of the Whig Party, he became involved with city politics and was appointed as the Cincinnati City Recorder. He then became a member of the Cincinnati City Council and was later elected as the council's president. Elected as Mayor, he served from 1857 to 1859. He donated his salary as Mayor to local charity. He was also the chief founder of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce. He died at his residence in Cincinnati in 1864 when he was 53 years old.
