Lou was born March 12, 1923, in Taylor to George and Stella (Dutton) Campbell.
Survivors are: husband, Jay Lees of Hastings, and son and daughter in law, Douglas and Carolyn Lees of Grand Island; grandchildren, Jessica and her husband, Justin Brinkmeyer, of Lincoln and Joshua and his wife, Maggie, of Clay Center; great-grandchildren, Kayin and Kendyn Brinkmeyer of Lincoln; as well as a host of relatives and friends.
Lou grew to womanhood in the Taylor area, graduating from Taylor High School with the class of 1940. She received her B.S. degree from Midland College in Fremont and her Master's Degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
Lou was united in marriage to Jay Calvin Lees on May 28, 1950, in Fremont.
The couple spent several years as house parents at Homes for Boys in Konnarock, Va., and on Lincoln and Hamburg, Iowa, before returning to Geneva, where she taught for 10 years. They then made their home in Grand Island, where she was employed by the Grand Island Public School System. She retired in 1983 with a total of 35 years of teaching in the state of Nebraska, 16 years spent as a special education teacher in Grand Island.
Lou was a member of the First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. She was active in the Women of the Lutheran Church group, Sunday school teacher, Retired Teachers Association, Alpha Delta Kappa (past member), YWCA and involved in various community activities.
She always enjoyed Volunteer Services at Good Samaritan Village.
First and foremost, Mom was a Christian, faithful wife, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an A+ teacher to many children, a human being that truly loved her extended family and friends. Her memory will be with us forever!
Her parents; brothers, Archie, Clyde and Arnold Campbell; and sister, Adah Strong, preceded her in death.
