Final rites were held Wednesday, February 23, from the R. L. D. S. Church in Woodbine, for Mrs. Ira Gilbert, 87, who died February 20, 1972 at Rose Vista Home following a long illness. Elder Elwin Vest officiated at the services.

Mary Leona T. Gilbert, daughter of James E. and Mary Ontague Wilson, was born at River Sioux, Iowa on September 27, 1884, and passed away February 20 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 23 days. She was baptized into the R. L. D. S. Church at an early age.

She was united in marriage to Ira Gilbert on March 2, 1902 at the R. L. D. S. Church in Moorhead. To this union, five children were born: Oscar Gilbert of Wichita, Kansas; Cecil Gilbert of Blair, Nebr.; Leone Biddle of Grass Valley, Calif.; Irene McCune of Topeka, Kansas and LaVonne Barry of Moorhead.

The deceased and her husband spent most of their life in Iowa and Nebraska, until his death in 1960. Onie, as she was called by her many friends, entered Rose Vista Home in Woodbine in May of 1961, and was a resident there until her death.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, three sisters and two grandchildren. She is survived by her five children; one brother, Earl Wilson of Pierson; one sister, Pearl Edmonds of Lamoni; 25 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. ~ The Moorhead Times, 9 March 1972.
