Mrs. Matilda Brown
Funeral services for the late Mrs. Matilda Brown were held in the Witoka church last Sunday. The whole country side seemed to have turned out and the church was filled to overflowing. The sermon was preached by the pastor, Rev. A. W. Gable form the text Job 5: 26. The most appropriate music was beautifully rendered by the local choir with the assistance of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sinclair of Ridgeway. Mrs. Brown will be missed by her many friends who speak in the highest terms of her many deeds of kindness. She was laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery in Centereville. She was a member of the M. E. church at Ridgeway having united with the church in 1891.
Matilda Montgomery was born at Mt. Gilead, Ohio, March 9, 1833 at the age of 18 years, her parents moved to Waupun, Wis. In 1855, they came to Minnesota. She was married July 4th, 1856 to J. R. Brown. To them was born William, with whom she made her home and Rufus, who died in March 1880.
