Betsy Peck Farnsworth was born in 1772 according to calculations from her 2nd husband's revolutionary pension record. She lived in Woodstock, Vermont with her husband, Abijah, but we are not sure where she was born, possibly Massachusetts, nor do we know who her parents are. A marriage record has not yet been found.

In 1820 Allen Carpenter stated in his Revolutionary Pension records that his wife was 48 years old and had a son named, Sampson Farnsworth, from her former marriage. We do know that she lived in Woodstock, Vermont. In Abijah Farnsworth's will he said, "I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Betsey Farnsworth, the whole of my household furniture and also the use and improvement of all the real estate I shall be seized of so long as she remain my widow or until my two sons, Oliver and Elijah ...shall arrive to the age of twenty one years."

Betsey's name has only been found in three records that I know of, The Farnsworth Memorial; Abijah's will (just her 1st name); and her daughter's Bible
(listing Betsey Carpenter's death).
Recently research has uncovered the fact that after her first husband, Abijah Farnsworth, died in Woodstock, Vermont in 1812 she was later married to Allen Carpenter approximately 1816 or so in Woodstock, Vermont.(Allen
Carpenter's Rev.War Record). They moved to Waitsfield, Vt and in 1821 or about that time, they moved to Homer, Cortland County, New York.
Her 2nd husband died in Homer, Cortland County, New York in 1835 and is buried in a Homer Cemetery. There are many Carpenter's buried in this cemetery and we are hoping to document the fact that Allen was buried here. However, we have been told there are no stones. Betsey was 63 years old in 1835 and her daughters Bible record records her death "Betsy Carpenter December 1844." We believe she may have lived with her daughter after her husband died. In that case, if she moved with them, she would be buried in Chautauqua County, New York where the Pierce Family owned property. Research is in process to find an exact place of death and her parents names. Please contact me if you have data to share.
