Dorothy Turner Evans, age 90, resident of Chanute, Kansas, died Monday evening, April 18, 2011, at her home. She was born March 12, 1921, in Parsons, Kansas, the daughter of James E. and Ruby Wiggans Smith. She married Willard M. Turner on December 24, 1939, in Fort Scott, Kansas. To this union were born three children; Jerry W. Turner, in 1941, James H. Turner, in 1944, and Judith C. Turner Funk in 1951. Willard and Dorothy divorced in 1967. She then attended The Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita, and returned to Fort Scott working for the Sisters of Mercy. Willard died on May 2, 1996. She married Morrison L. Kimzey on June 13, 1969, in LaCygne, Kansas. He died in a truck accident in 1972. In 1975, Dorothy married Robley D. Evans of LaCygne. He died on December 7, 1984. Dorothy moved to Chanute, Kansas, in 1990. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Chanute, and enjoyed traveling, fishing, crocheting and reading.
..She is survived by her daughter, Judy Funk, Chanute, Kansas; a sister, Jackie Summers, Wichita, Kansas; twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are four nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her three husbands; three brothers, Jearle, Raymond and Donald Smith; two sons, Jerry and Jim Turner; one son-in-law, Eldon L. Funk; and one nephew, Calvin Lee Smith.
..Pastor Mark McCuistion conducted funeral services for Dorothy Evans at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 22, at the First Nazarene Church, 14th & Plummer St., Chanute, Kansas. Burial followed in the Woods Cemetery, Fort Scott. Memorials were suggested to the Chanute Church of the Nazarene.
