US Congressman. Born Jefferson County, Kentucky, he studied law at Washington College Lexington, Virginia, was admitted to the bar in 1804 and commenced to practice in Louisville, Kentucky. He was a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1809-11). In 1821, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventeenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of US Representative Wingfield Bullock and served until 1823. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he was appointed District Judge by Kentucky Governor Robert Desha but declined to serve to resume the practice of law. He died at age 68 in Louisville, Kentucky.
