L.L. Beall, 72, of 4657 McRaven Road, a retired switch operator for Illinois Central Railroad, died of heart failure Wednesday at Hinds General Hospital.
Services are 3 p.m. today in Parkhill Baptist Church with burial in Lakewood Cemetery. Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mr. Beall, a Georgetown native, lived in Jackson for 48 years. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Retired Railroad Workers.
He retired from the railroad after more than 30 years.
"He enjoyed his work,'" said his son, Bobby Beall of Jackson. "He liked the work and the people he worked with."
Though he held a railroad pass that allowed him to travel anywhere in the United States, Mr. Beall rarely traveled. He preferred staying at home.
"You could take him to see somebody, and he would be ready to go after an hour," his son said. "He liked to be with people in his community."
He was a World War II veteran. He was a charter member and deacon of Parkhill Baptist Church.
Other survivors include: wife, Gertrude; sons, Jimmy Beall of Tupelo, Glenn Beall of Harrisville, Larry Beall of Meridian and the Rev. Delton Beall of Forrest City, Ark.; brothers, Ray Beall of Pumpkin Center, La., Prentiss Beall, Winford Beall, George Beall, - Dennis Beall and Lee Beall, all of Hazlehurst, and Jack Beall of Kosciusko; . four sisters, Vera Dyess of Pumpkin Center, La., Minnie Jane Wooten and Ruby Montgomery, both of Hazlehurst, and Maybelle Derrick of Wesson; and 18 grandchildren and two great-grand- children.
