Claude Buchanan, 89, of Pisgah Forest, formerly of Sylva, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015. A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Jeff and Mary Jane Buchanan. He was an U.S. Navy veteran. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers Fremont and Huey Buchanan; and by his sister, Barbara Payne. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Moore Buchanan; a sister, Alice Morgan of California; and a brother, John Buchanan of Brevard. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Dennis Burrell officiating. The family received friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial followed in Carson Cemetery in Macon County.
