Leonard Leroy Holmes affectionately known as "Leroy" was born on July 18, 1955 in King George County, Virginia to Leonard and Beatrice Holmes. He peacefully departed this life on February 27, 2011 at King George Heritage Hall Nursing Home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He attended King George County Public School. Then, later in life he made his profession doing concrete and working various other jobs. Leroy enjoyed being with family and friends especially his grandson whom he called "Rock." He and Rock had a special bond, it was more like a father and son relationship instead of grandfather and grandson. When he picked Rock up the first place they went was Norma Jean's house, because Leroy loved to eat, and so did Rock. Leroy knew that his sister or his brother-in-law, Mitchell would always go out of their way to cook him something good to eat.

Leroy was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was preceded in death by Leonard Holmes (Stepfather), James Ford Sr. (Father) and two brothers, Ralph Streets and Clarence Ford.

Leroy's hobbies were drawing, painting and making jewelry boxes.

Leroy leaves behind fond memories to be cherished by his mother, Beatrice Holmes, of King George; two daughters, Beatrice Carr(Quintin) and Latina Smith, of Fredericksburg; a special grandson, Juleahl Childs (Rock), of Caroline County; six sisters, Barbara Howard (Darnell) of Caroline County, Shirley Washington of Baltimore, Lillian Clarke (John) of Stafford County; a special sister, Norma Jean Conway (Mitchell), Dothea Saunders (Melvin) & Doretha Ford, all of King George; six brothers, Ernest Scott & William T. Holmes, both of King George, Augustus Holmes, of Fredericksburg, James Ford (Irma) of Spotsylvania County, Charles Streets, of King George & William Johnson (Stephanie) of Upper Marlboro; four uncles, Purcell Scott (Diane), Kenneth Scott (Marcellus), Herman Scott (Joyce) & Odell Scott; a special niece, Marlo Conway; special friends, Edith Buie, Isaac Baylor, Jayson Wilson, Shelby Dean, Poker Jim, Sarah Brown, and William Brown (Puncho) and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Found and Sons Funeral Chapels-Cremation Service, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, VA. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 7, 2011 at 12:00pm at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Darnell Howard officiating.
