Stephen E. Leach

Mr. Stephen E. Leach, age 65, of New Castle, DE, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011, at Christiana Hospital after a long battle with Kennedy's Disease.

A native Delawarean, Steve was born in Wilmington on December 23, 1945, and graduated from William Penn High School in New Castle. He would go on to earn his bachelor's degree in accounting in 1968 from the University of Delaware, where he was a member of the Theta Chi Fraternity. He made his career in personal finance, working as a retirement plan consultant for John J. Pearce & Company in Wilmington for over 20 years until his retirement in 1995. For several years, he also served as a trustee of New Castle Commons.

Steve was well known to his many friends for his sharp intellect and keen sense of humor. An avid sports enthusiast from his youth, he was a fan of Thoroughbred horse racing and all Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies.

He was preceded in death by his father, Benjamin W. Leach, and brother, William D. Leach. He is survived by his mother, Helen Mialik Leach of New Castle; and his brother, John, his wife, Carole, and their children, David, Matthew, and Monica.

The members of the family extend their sincere gratitude to the staffs of Seasons Hospice and the Medical Intensive Care Unit at Christiana Hospital for their professional care and many kindnesses during Steve's illness.

Visitation will be held from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, April 21st, at the Spicer-Mullikin Funeral Home, 1000 N. DuPont Parkway, New Castle. A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Friday, April 22nd, at Glebe Cemetery in Old New Castle.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in memory of Steve to the PTA of the John G. Leach School, 10 Landers Lane, New Castle, DE 19720; or to Seasons Hospice, 220 Continental Drive, Ste. 101, Newark, DE 19713.
