QUINN, Lloyd Andrew
Lloyd was born on July 29, 1923, in Kincardine, Ontario. He enlisted in the
Royal Canadian Air Force on November 19, 1942 and served in the 419 Repair
and Salvage Unit in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. His job
was to transport downed aircraft back to their bases with a mobile crane for
repairs or to be used for parts. Between June 1944 and the end of the war, his
unit retrieved hundreds of planes. In addition to planes that would crash land,
Lloyd's unit would also retrieve the aircraft left behind as the allied troops
advanced. He was discharged on May 1, 1946 after which he owned a farm in
Kincardine and became an electrician in the area. Lloyd was a member of The
Royal Canadian Legion Kincardine Branch 183 for more than fifty years before
he passed away on April 7, 2011.
