Thelma was born to a farmer's family in SouthWest Arkansas and married Walter Bowden Miller, a lumberman turned watchmaker in the early 1920s. She followed him to Texas, back to Arkansas and later to Oklahoma as he searched for work during the Depression.

She had three daughters, Georgia Marcille, Helen Janice, & Agnes Bernice and one son, Walter Bowden Jr. ...and 16 grand children.

She was a volunteer worker for the local YWCA and the Treasurer for the North East Baptist Church in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She was a devout Christian. I remember walking in the rain with her to church.

She loved to play Dominoes and Bingo. Saturday Noon was our Bingo day. Many late evening game sessions of dominoes. We played on a green marbled Formica kitchen table. When she won she was delighted and her excitement easily filled the kitchen. I found myself happy for her as well, even though I had lost.

She loved the music 'Amazing Grace'. In church, she could easily lead the congregation in singing the song. Her favorite singer - Kris Kristofferson, especially his religious songs.

I knew how to make amends for my indiscretions - a box of "Millionaires" chocolate candy. They were her one weakness.

I find I can remember just before and after her funeral, but nothing between. Uncle Otis took us for a catfish lunch afterwards.
