Howard A. Cross, 81, a resident of Montrose, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Sunday, April 17, 2011, following an extended illness.
He was born Jan. 26, 1930, at Moore, Tucker County, a son of the late Thomas and Bertha Summerfield Cross.
He was married to the former Ada Jones, who survives at Montrose.
Also surviving are three daughters, Linda Bartlett of Hurricane, Dinah Tomblyn and husband, Mark, of Elkins and Debbie Judy and husband, Allen, of Dailey. One brother, Joe Cross of Parsons; two sisters, Beulah Reynolds of Parsons and Luria Vance of Kerens; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Bartlett of Raleigh, North Carolina, Joshua Bartlett of Knoxville, Tennessee, Amanda and Alex Tomblyn of Elkins and Cody, Caleb and Mallorie Judy of Dailey, also survive.
Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Oakey, Omer, Charles and Ernie Cross; and one sister, Violet Martin.
Howard attended the schools of Tucker County and was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was employed for many years by the United States Forest Service prior to his retirement in 1985.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Cremation will follow.
