U.S. Congressman. Born n New Buffalo, Pennsylvania, he taught school in the districts in Perry and Clinton Counties, (1878-92). He attended Potts Business College, worked as a shipping clerk and was director of the Johnsonburg National Bank. He served as president of the Johnsonburg City Council, (1900-04), president of the board of education (1904-10), Mayor of Johnsonburg, (1908-12), Sheriff of Elk County, (1916-20), chairman of the Republican county committee, (1916-25) and treasurer of Elk County, (1920-22). In 1921, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-seventh, Sixty-eighth and Sixty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1927. An unsuccessful candidate for re-nomination, he was in business as a freight contractor and agricultural pursuits until his death at age 70 in Johnsonburg, Pennsylvania.
