Patriot and Philanthropist. Daniel Carroll of Duddington was a patriot, landowner and Washington's first bank president, who sacrificed much of his property to the Government to provide the site of the United States Capital and other Federal buildings. A 1791 map identifies many of the properties deeded to the District of Columbia by Daniel Carroll of Duddington. Daniel Carroll was a first cousin of of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, patriot and signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Daniel Carroll of Duddington was the son of Charles Carroll of Duddington II (1729-1771) and Mary Hill (1729-1807).
