U.S. Congressman. He took special studies at West Chester State Teachers College and studied electrical engineering at Drexel Institute, Philadelphia. During World War I, he served in the United States Marine Corps, (1918-19). After the war, he was assistant superintendent of the Pennsylvania Department of Highways, (1925-35), a Deputy Sheriff in Chester County, (1936-43) and Sheriff of Chester County, (1944-46). In 1947, he was elected as a Republican to the Eightieth Congress and to the next nine succeeding Congresses, serving until 1966. Not a candidate for reelection, he retired from public service until his death at age 76.
