Williadean Mae (Barbe) Lawson, born July 14, 1920, passed on to her eternal reward with her Lord on Wednesday (April 13, 2011) at Wallace B. Murphy Nursing Care Facility in Grafton.

She was the daughter of the late Abraham G. Barbe and the late Emma L. Dennison (Barbe) Brown.

She was raised by her grandparents, the late William S. and Estella Mae Barbe, and attended McCann's Run Methodist Church as a child. She was raised in Lewis County and attended schools in Jane Lew and Weston.

She was married to the late Rev. David E. "Gene" Lawson for 58 years when he passed away in Fairmont on Feb. 17, 1998.
She is survived by her son, William "Bill" Lawson of Fairmont; her daughter, Roberta Sharlene (Lawson) Holt and her husband Ronald E. of Grafton; her grandchildren, Dr. Debra Crites-Sams and her husband Robert of Lewisburg, Robert "Bobby" DeRiggi and his wife Vicki of Kingwood, Shelia (Crites) Loftus and her husband Michael of Charleston, the Rev. Ronalene (Holt) Delligatti and her husband the Rev. Michael of Grafton, and Julie Lawson and her companion Melissa Shea of Pittsburgh; and seven great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her son-in-law, Robert J. Crites of Lewisburg; her sister, Verniadean (Sanford) Paugh of Fairmont; close friends, Mary Sanders of Fairmont and Delores (Perkins) Jackson (formerly Lawson) of Fairmont; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews.
Williadean and her late husband pastored several churches throughout the central West Virginia area, including Highway Mission, Bethal Mission, Sarrietta Community Church in Fairmont, Chatham Hill Mission in Farmington and Linn Chapel Church in Grafton.
Mrs. Lawson directed several Vacation Bible Schools at Hopewell Methodist Church, Mount Hebron Baptist Church and Quiet Dell Community Church in Fairmont, and Methodist Churches in Philippi, Ronceverte and Wheeling. She was a member of Fairmont First Church of the Nazarene for several years and then became a charter member of Fairmont Central Church of the Nazarene when it was established. She held a license of child evangelism from the American Free Church and Christ Gospel Mission in her early years of ministry. She dearly loved children and was concerned for their soul's salvation.
From 1946 to 1952, she held Bible Commando Club meetings every Friday evening after school in her Hopewell home and loved each child. Her favorite teaching tools were her handpuppet "Jaco" and flannel graph stories that she made from printed pictures, oilcloth, flannel material and homemade flour glue.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Carol Lawson Crites, on Dec. 25, 2008 in Lewisburg; a granddaughter, Tracy Lawson in infancy; and a brother-in-law, Willard Paugh. Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Doug Hendrixon officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
