Staples Trawick

1915-2011

Nellie Estelle Staples Trawick, 95, of Pensacola, died of natural causes on April 16, 2011.

She born on August 26, 1915 in Pensacola, educated and lived her entire life here, working briefly at the Navy Yard and raising her children in East Hill. She was the supportive wife of Ralph W. Trawick, manager of Liberty National Life Insurance Company, who preceded her in death almost 30 years ago. She was a lifetime member of Whitfield Memorial Baptist Church, a founding member of the Dogwood Garden Club and a flower show judge. Her other interests included hand sewing and painting.

Nellie was most of all a lover of all things family; having family meals, and doing anything with her three children, nine grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren. Her eyes would light up any time a child was near, and she always let them know that she loved them.

Nellie is preceded in death by her son, Barry Eugene, her husband, Ralph W., her mother Evelina Staples, her father James Staples, her brothers Elmore and J.T. Staples, her son-in-law, David Bates, and her great-grandson Braddock Hendrix.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Steve Trawick (Lucy), and daughter, Marjorie Bates, grandchildren Jacqueline Bates Alling (Doug), Cindy Bates Hall (Todd), David Bates, Jr., Michael Bates (Joanna), John Trawick (Karla), Virginia Trawick Scheck (Paul), Kathryn Trawick Hendrix (Jeff), Stephanie Trawick Parker (Tom), and Taylor Fleming-Trawick, as well as 18 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday at 10 a.m. at Bayview Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nellie's name to the Sacred Heart Hospital Neo Natal Unit, 5151 N. Ninth Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504.

HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPE were in charge of arrangements.
