ESSEX - Kevin C. McGrath, 40, of Essex, formerly of Colchester, died peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends in Burlington Health and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, April 17, 2011, following a long illness with Huntington's Disease.

Kevin was born in Burlington on Jan. 15, 1971, to Charles E. McGrath and the late Emily (Lapidow) McGrath.

In 1989, Kevin graduated from Colchester High School. One of his greatest achievements during high school was becoming Class President his sophomore year. Kevin was active in sports with wrestling being his all-time favorite. Kevin loved Malletts Bay, spending his summers with his family and friends around bonfires and barbecues. He had a passion for video games, computers, and making home movies. In his short life, Kevin always looked at the bright side, always with a smile and sense of humor, no matter what the situation would be. Kevin was especially happiest when spending time with his nieces and nephew and watching football.

Kevin is survived by his sister, Kimberly Kirby, her children, Sarah, Emily, and Corey, and Kim's fiancé, Eric Bergeron, of Essex; his father, Charles McGrath; half brothers, Chris and Michael, all of Sterling Heights, Mich.; uncles and aunts, Bill and Kapsun McGrath of Colchester, and their daughter, Heather, Robin and Arlene Brayson of Castleton, N.Y., Mac and Nancy McIlrath of Doylestown, Pa., and their sons, Matt and Dan; godmother, Lucy Ahern of Georges Mills, N.H.; close family friend, Ellen Armstrong of Enosburg; and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother, Emily; grandparents, William and Marion McGrath (who raised him); and grandfather, Frank Lapidow.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Roger Charbonneau on Monday, April 25, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Church Road in Colchester.

Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. A reception will be held in the Holy Cross Parish Hall. All are invited.
