Funeral Friday
Funeral for Phillip Smith Jr., 63, of Elizabethtown, will be conducted by Myers Funeral Service, Reed and Jewell Chapel, at 1 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Bob Vance officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Friday at the funeral home. Graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Pigeon Roost Cemetery near Scottsburg.
Memorials may be made to Bartholomew County Children's Home.
Mr. Smith died at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1992, at Bartholomew County Hospital emergency room.
He worked at Golden Operations 35 years, retiring Feb. 1, 1991. He was also a farmer. Mr. Smith was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Golden Foundry Union Local 86. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
He was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Knott County, Ky., the son of Phillip and Sylvia McKee Smith. He married Betty A. Shirley in 1957. She survives.
Also surviving are sons, Allen Lee Roll, Larry Wayne and Robert Clifton Smith of Columbus, Rex Allen Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Brad Edward Smith, at home; brothers, Cooley and Goodloe Smith of Elizabethtown and Charles Smith of Carthage; sisters, Susie Johnson of Brinkley, Ky., Joan Ritchie of London, Ky., Hester Mullins of Scottsburg, Delia Hignite of Columbus and Alley Morris of Alert; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death bu a daughter, Linda Smith' two brothers; and two sisters.
