US Congressman. Rising from a merchant to a political activist, he was elected to the Pennsylvania State Legislature six times between the years of 1817 and 1829. After spending time in his local Allentown, Pennsylvania town government, he was elected as a Democrat to represent Pennsylvania's 8th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving two terms from March 4, 1839 to March 4, 1843. He chose against re-election in 1842, and his seat was subsequently filled by Congressman Jeremiah Brown. He passed away in his native Allentown in 1860.
