James F. married Annie P. Quinkert who was born in Michigan before her parents settled in Smartsville. Her parents are buried nearby in the main section of the Smartsville Catholic Cemetery. They are the parents of Edward L. "Ned" who was killed in Argonne, France in WW1, Mary Florence, Daniel James, Genevieve, and James D. McGanney. In 1900 census, their family is living next door to his widowed mother and sister Anna in Smartsville. They must have moved to San Francisco after 1900, perhaps after 1902 when his mother died.
