LONG BEACH -- Mr. Richard Garris, 65, of Long Beach, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in Pass Christian.

Mr. Garris was a native of Jeannette, Pa. He was retired from the United States Air Force and called Long Beach home since 1961. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was active in the Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. In his retirement years he gave freely of his time and expertise to his family and friends.

Mr. Garris was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Garris and Cecilia Welch Garris.

Survivors include his wife, four sons, four sisters, Zelma Mertz and Dorothy Rugh, both of Greensburg, Pa.; Jean Baker of Baltimore; and Audrey Hoak of Grapeville, Pa.; four brothers, Bud Garris of San Mateo, Calif.; Robert Garris, Paul Garris and Kenneth Garris all of Jeannette, Pa.; and six grandchildren.

The funeral mass will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Naval Construction Battalion Center Chapel in Gulfport. Family and friends will gather after the Mass in the Fellowship Hall of the chapel. A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Biloxi National Cemetery.

The family prefers memorials to the Knights of Columbus, c/o NCBC Chapel, Gulfport, 5200 2nd St., Gulfport MS 39501.
