Victor Edward Zimmerman, son of Oscar and Louise (Scheelk) Zimmerman, was born the 7th of 12 children on October 3, 1922 in Everglade Township in Stevens County, Minnesota. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chokio on October 22, 1922 by Revered Pilgrim. During and following his schooling at Rural District #62, he worked with his parents on the family farm near Chokio. At the age of twenty, Vic's father died and Vic took on the responsibility of operating the family farm to help support his mother and five younger siblings. On March 6, 1948, Victor was united in marriage to Doris Jean Christensen at Zion Lutheran Church in Chokio. The couple moved on to the Zimmerman family farm, where Vic lived his entire life. Vic and Doris raised four children and a variety of farm animals over the next 63 years.

Vic had a strong work ethic and was very innovative. He was always thinking of ways to improve his farming operation to make jobs easier. During his life he raised nearly every type of livestock but in 1960 he specialized in egg production. This involvement in egg production by the Zimmerman family spanned over 50 years. He taught his family to all work together until the work was done. He liked to say "Work hard when we work and play hard when we play".

Victor was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Chokio. He served on the Building Committee for West Central Home and enjoyed bowling on the church league. He was a charter member of the 9-F Sportsman Club in Morris, MN and an officer in the Chokio Sportsman Club. His passion for hunting took him to several parts of North America and he especially loved hunting with his family in the north woods. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. During his fifty years in the egg business he was also a member of the United Egg Producers Association.
