Mr. Charles R. Darby, of Barnesville, who passed a successful examination for post office inspectorship on last Tuesday, was appointed to that position and left on Tuesday to enter upon his duties in Chicago. He is a member of Lynch Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Frederick; his present salary is $1400 per annum for first six months, and $4.00 a day for traveling expenses. After that it is at the rate of $1,600 per annum and $4.00 a day.

The Cornerstone of the chapel in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville, was laid by Gaithersburg lodge of Masons. Addresses were made by Robert E. Lee, of Virginia, grandson of the Confederate general, and Charles R. Darby of Barnesville.

Charles Riggs Darby, 64 years old, died at his home in Barnesville, Saturday.

He is survived by a widow, Mrs. Sarah Virginia Henderson (sic) Darby, and four sons, Samuel Porter Darby, Washington; Major Taylor E. Darby, Plattsburg Barracks, N.Y.; Charles Vaughn Darby, Washington; and Marshall E. Darby, Aberdeen.

The funeral was held Tuesday from the home under the direction of Lynch Lodge of Masons, of which Mr. Darby was a member. He was also a member of the Boumi Temple, Mystic Shriners, Baltimore.

Burial was in Monocacy cemetery, Beallsville.
