WW1 Veteran U.S. Army
20th Engineers, 18th Co.
Survivor of the German U-boat attack that sank the Troopship "Tuscania" off the Irish Coast on the evening of Feb. 5, 1918.

Son of William Riley Garrett & Naomi Esther Carter

Married about 1913 to Mary Maude Crozier, divorced sometime in the 1930s. Mary is listed in the Oregon Death index as Mary Maude Garrett.

Married Feb. 4, 1940 to Mary Effie Rogers, the cermony was performed in the city of Weiser, Washington County, Idaho. The 1940 census has them living at 1306 N Ave., La Grande, Union Co., Oregon on April 2, 1940. Mary Rogers had been previously married twice before her marriage with Riley. Her first marriage was with William Perry Blanchard; her second marriage was with Thomas Jefferson Hughey. Her marriage with Riley did not last very long, I believe that this marriage ended before 1942, as Riley listed his sister as a family contact on his 1942 Military draft card. Mary Effie Rogers married Martin C. Byer on Oct. 3, 1944 in Walla Walla, Washington.

Married Dec. 23, 1947 to Grace Selman, the cermony was performed in Vancouver, Clark Co., Washington. I was unable to find much information about her. This marriage ended before 1952.

Married May 5, 1952 to Bessie Rimbey, the cermony took place in Vancouver, Clark Co., Washington. Bessie was previously married once to William H. Fields. Bessie is listed in the Oregon Death index as Bessie Garrett, however Bessie is buried in the same cemetery as her first husband, her tombstone reads: "Bessie, beloved wife of William H. Fields"
