Daniel was the son of John & Ann Shaw. He married Lucy Wilkinson on Oct 12, 1887 in Sycamore Co, IL. They were the parents of Laura, Russell, Edna, Sarah, Robert, Marian and James.

Carroll Daily Herald - Tuesday, September 2 - Daniel Shaw, son of John and Ann Shaw, was born in Sycamore Co., Illinois, Feb. 6, 1858 and died at the home of his son Russell in Lanesboro, IA, August 26, 1930 being 72 years 6 months and 20 days of age.

He grew to manhood in the home county and on the 13th of Oct. 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Lucy Wilkinson. Seven children were born to this union, three sons and four daughters. In 1898 Mr. Shaw removed Illinois and came to Iowa to make his future home.

They came to Lake City where they lived for one year and then purchased the farm south west of Lanesboro. On this farm the family have resided until this year. On February 13, 1915 the first break came in the family circle when Mrs. Shaw passed away. Then on Nov 10, 1918 when the world was waiting with bated breath for the signing of the armistice, the son Robert was kilted in an auto accident. Again on April 4, 1922 the daughter Edne, Mrs. Harry Moyer, passed over into the spirit world.

On the 1st of March 1920 Mr. Shaw quit farming and moved to Glidden while his son Russell took over the management of the farm, Mr. Shaw continued to live in Glidden until two years ago when falling health compelled him to break up his home and to live with his son Russell on the farm. Last spring the family moved to Lanesboro.

About the first of June, Mr Shaw’s health suffered a further break and during the past five weeks, it has only been a question of how long native strength and constitution could withstand the advance of weakness and disease. The end came near 6 o'clock Tuesday morning, Aug. 26.

He is survived by one brother James Shaw of Sycamore, IL; one sister, Mrs George Byron of Randolf, Neb., and since this obituary was written, this sister who had been seriously ill for many weeks has also passed away.

Three daughters: Mrs Sherman Lathrop, of Glidden, Mrs Mason Brown and Miss Marion Shaw of Chicago, IL.; two sons Russell of Lanesboro and James of Glidden; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and other relatives; and a very large circle of acquaintances at Lidderdale, Glidden and Lanesboro, who knew him to be a good neighbor and a friend of high honor.

Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Mr and Mrs. A. Mason Brown and Miss Marian Shaw of Chicago; Mr and Mrs. James Shaw and Miss Hattie Wilkinson of Sycamore, IL.

The Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the ME church, conducted by the pastor Rev. G.W. Hall, interment was made in the East Liberty cemetery.
