He resided in Caroline County, Maryland prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on December 15, 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents.

B-24H #42-52105 took off from Seething, England on a bombing mission over Osnabruck, Germany. While over the target they were hit by enemy ground flak and then attacked by multiple fighter planes. They eventually crashed into the North Sea due to severe damage during the war.

William was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
