Dr. Fons Dur, a surgeon, was serving in Afghanistan as part of a surgical team at the Role 2 hospital in Tarin Kowt in Uruzgan. He died at age 56 of a suspected heart attack in non-combat circumstances.
He had worked at the Red Cross Hospital (RKZ) in Beverwijk since 1994 and also at the Medical Centre Alkmaar, in the Kennemerland region of Holland.
Dr. Dur leaves behind his partner, children, family, friends and colleagues.
A repatriation ceremony was held at Eindhoven airbase in Netherlands.
