"Jewel M. Blackwood died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 89 years of age. She was born to A.P. and Martha Mullins in East Texas, the second of four children. Jewel was raised in Carlisle, TX and graduated from Carlisle High School. She attended North Texas University and received her Bachelors of Art degree in music. After graduation while working at Baylor University for school President Dr. W.R. White, she met Lyle V. Blackwood Sr. They were married July 2, 1950. They later moved to San Antonio, TX where they raised their four children. Jewel and Lyle moved to Austin in 1982 where they owned and operated the Austin Popeye's Chicken franchise until they retired in the mid '90s. Jewel was committed to her faith in Jesus Christ, her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren, her family and her friends. She was gracious and selfless. She loved music and teaching it to others with a great love for hymns. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Jewel was predeceased by her parents; brothers Alfred and Norman Mullins; and a beloved son Charles Michael Blackwood. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Lyle V. Blackwood Sr.; sons Lyle V. Blackwood Jr. of Dallas, TX, and Glenn A. Blackwood and wife Beth of West Palm Beach, FL.; daughter Barbara Kay Reynolds and husband Terry of Pflugerville, TX; daughters-in-law Anne Blackwood of Austin, TX and Suzanne Blackwood of Fort Worth, TX; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother Herman Mullins and wife Mary Jo of Henderson, TX...."
