US Congressman. Born in Goshen, Connecticut, he moved to Ohio, in 1814, engaged in agricultural pursuits, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1823 and commenced to practice law in Canfield. He was a member of the Ohio State Senate (1842-51) and presiding judge of the court of common pleas, (1844-51). In 1851, he was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress, serving until 1853. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he served as president of the Ashtabula & New Lisbon Railroad (1856-59) and again in the Ohio State Senate, (1862-64). After his term, he resumed the practice of law and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death at age 90 in Canfield, Ohio.
