WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Mr. Haywood Sikes, 81, of Stripp Lane, entered into rest Thursday, May 24, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. today, from Bethel Baptist Church, Alexander, Ga. with the Rev. Keith Jordan, Pastor Bryan Matthews, and Chaplain Paulwyn Boliek officiating. Interment will be in Burke Memorial Gardens, Waynesboro, Ga. Mr Sikes, a native and lifelong resident of Burke County, had retired as Superintendent of Burke County Roads Dept., after 52 years of service. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, a member of the Woodman of the World Local and a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Myra E. Sikes; two sons, Donald Sikes and Charlie Sikes Sr. all of Waynesboro; two daughters, Gloria Jones of Hephzibah and Linda Britto of Gough; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Bethel Baptist Church, employees of Burke County Road Dept., and Terrell Oliver, John Hall, Bobby Stewart, Harold Chavis, Marvin Simpson, Charlie Oglesby, Evans Murray and Bobby Braswell. Memorial contributions may be made to United Hospice and Home Care, Inc., 2604 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA 30909, although flowers will be accepted. DeLoach Funeral Home, 842 Liberty St., Waynesboro, GA.
