"That Flying Pleasants"
Monocacy Monocle, April 11, 2008

"One of Thomas Plater's daughters, Jane Williams, was quite a character in her own right. Her first husband was old enough to be her father and her second husband, Mr. Pleasants, was young enough to be her son. She wasn't shy about defending her reputation. In her personal notes, she recorded that she wanted it known that her second husband was not to be confused with a Mr. Basil Pleasants. It seems that gentleman was "infamous in the area" for his painful and unsuccessful attempts to fly! She just wanted to clarify to everyone that she did not marry "that flying Pleasants."
