Arrived in Marshall with Charles Gorham in 1836 and opened Eagle Store. He continued in the mercantile trade to 1873 when he turned his business over to his sons, Charles D. and Edgar A. The Brewer family continued this business unil 1928. Brewer built Oak Hill, Marshall's foremost example of Italian Villa syle in 1858. When Marshall Village was formed in 1837, Brewer was chosen as treasurer and was reelected three times. He was elected village recorder four times, first in 1839.
