Youngest child of Elmer J. and Lessie M. Ray (Striker.) Both of her parents passed away while Florine was a minor, so family members took in she and her sister, Francile, for several years.

Florine was my grandmother: a devoted wife and mother, a talented seamstress and cook, and quietly devout Christian woman. I remember her in the kitchen, cooking up a fine Sunday dinner, and though it was never fancy food, it was always delicious and wonderful. In her teensy kitchen, she'd set up her sewing machine and make us dresses, pajamas, and other things, and she sewed curtains for her own house, as well as those of her children. Over the years, she was employed by Wayne Bun Candy Company, and there are stories about how she brought broken BUN candies home from the factory and gave them to my father during the Depression, causing many kids to want to be his pal. She worked at a fabric store in Fort Wayne in the 60's, and for a time at a small local donut shop in New Haven.

She and Rolla had two children, Roger William Durbin (1934-2008,) and Annette Lucinda.

Florine was a member of of the Order Of the Eastern Star.
