Jane Candace Ferguson, daughter of Joseph H. and Jane Gragg Ferguson, married William Freeman in 1855 in Harrison Co., TX. Together they had five children, the last being born seven months after William enlisted in the CSA in Canton, TX. Their firstborn, John Gilchrist lived one day (30 Dec 1855 - 31 Dec 1855) and their fourth born, Champion Decelous was born 4 Dec 1858 but was not with the family in the 1870 census when he would have been 12 years old. After William's death, Jane married her first cousin, Justice Ferguson.

Jane raised the remaining three children and when William did not return from the Civil War, she married her first cousin, Justice D. Ferguson in 1871 and they moved to Tarrant County, TX near the border with Parker Co. to be near her daughter, Amanda Jane Freeman Boone. Candace died in 1899 and is buried in the Oakland(Greenwood Cemetery)in Weatherford, Parker Co., Texas where her daughter and son-in-law, William Boone, are buried.
