U.S. Congressman. Born in Columbus, Ohio, he attended Ohio State University, graduated from the College of Law of Ohio State University in 1928, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Columbus, Ohio. In 1936, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Charles V. Truax, serving until 1937. Not a candidate for election, he resumed the practice of law, was a member of the Officers’ Reserve Corps and was a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Air Force, (1941-46). In 1948, he was in command of the Ohio Air National Guard, was recalled to active duty as commanding officer, deputy commander and operations officer of the 155th Tactical Control Group, US Air Force, for the NATO tactical air control facilities in Western Europe, serving (1951-53). He then resumed the practice of law until his death at age 68 in Columbus, Ohio.
