U.S. Congressman. Born in Tredyffrin Township, Pennsylvania, he moved to Willoughby, Ohio, in 1873 and engaged in business as a coal dealer. He was a member of the Willoughby City Council in 1881, president of the Belle Vernon-Mapes Dairy Company and vice president of the Cleveland, Painesville & Eastern Railroad Company. In 1901, he was elected as a Republican to the Fifty-seventh, Fifty-eighth, and Fifty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1907. Declining to be a candidate for re-nomination, he was president of the Rhodes & Beidler Coal Company and a member of the Ohio State Board of Agriculture. He died at age 59 in Willoughby, Ohio.
