Engaged For the town Of Hope Maine-SGT. William Wentworth. Company K. 20th Of Maine::: Killed at Haiches Run ,Va 1865 The first Wentworth to step foot on American soil was Elder William Wentworth from
England. From this line came the 2 Governors of NH, Benning and John. Also from
this line came the line to Mass., and then Appleton.

The two lines of Wentworths came from John, son of Elder William Wentworth in
NH. One line stayed in NH (THE GOVERNORS) and the other scooted off
to Mass. (Canton,Stoughton)where the leather, tanning and shoe industries prevailed
and of course closer to Boston. Then as mentioned, Sion to Appleton. The Wentworths
have Royal connections, I think Royce will verify this, or Gary Boyd Roberts books will.
(note from Arthur Small, 9 March 2011)

Elder Wm.Wentworth was the first Wentworth to leave England and come to
America(NH). He stayed and died in NH. The William in Hope Grove Cem., was
probably named after Elder William Wentworth. I presume William in Hope Grove
is a desc. of Sion some how. I would have to check Royce's book on the Pease
and Wentworths.Leave William as before. All this info.,I give you is under Sion and Mary W.

A son of Elder WW was John Wentworth. From this line came Shubael who went
to MA., where Sion(Sr.) was born and Sion(Jr.) later. (John remained in NH). I presume all
the Wentworths from Hope/Appleton are descendants of Sion(Jr.) who came to Hope.
