Richard "Dick" Coon passed away peacefully April 11, 2011. He was born March 15, 1929, in Syracuse, New York, to Helena (Hall) and Alton Coon. He recently relocated to Rochester, MN, from Crystal River, FL, to be closer to family. He attended school in Syracuse and met Doris (Gotham), the love of his life, in the 11th grade. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
Among his many accomplishments, Dick was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, stationed in Italy following World War II. He was also an Eagle Scout, Grand Master of the Free Masons and past president of the Hillcrest Village Association in Crystal River.
Dick was in sales for 38 years. He worked for 3M initially and finished his career with Avery Dennison. He and Doris traveled to many places thanks to his success in sales. They lived in Syracuse, NY; Utica, NY; New Hartford, NY; Medfield, MA; Roswell, GA; and Charlotte, NC. They retired to Crystal River in 1992.
Dick and Doris had four children, Pam Hogan of Reno, NV; Jim Coon (Jo) of Rochester, MN; Jeff Coon (Rhonda) of Longview, TX; and Barbara Peterkin (Scott) of Atlanta, GA. They were blessed with five grandchildren, Martin Coon, Dylan (Krystal) Coon, Nathan (Heather) Coon, Courtney (Eric) Ward and Rachel Peterkin. They also had four great-grandchildren, Kiannah Coon, Jaidyn Coon, Audrey Coon and Scarlett Ward.
In addition to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Dick is survived by a sister, Bev Hennessy, of Syracuse, NY; and a brother, David Coon, of Manchester, NH.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris.
Dad, go be with Mom. We know you have missed her for a very long time. She was and still is the love of your life. We hope you will find peace, contentment and happiness.
No services are planned at this time. The family suggests a donation in Dick's name to the Stewartville Care Center or a charity of your choice.
Arrangements are with Griffin-Gray F.H. in Stewartville.
