William enlisted in the Army on November 9, 1942 in Rochester, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a brick and stone mason and also as Single, without dependents. He was inducted into the Army on November 16, 1942 in Rochester.

He was "Killed In Action" in Belgium during the war.

He was awarded a Purple Heart.
