Mr. Garner retired from the United States Navy after 27 years of service. He was a three war veteran, starting with World War II, then the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He saw sea duty on the USS Pine Island and as a aircraft mechanic, saw service on many aircraft patrol squadrons and naval air stations. He was awarded the U.S. Navy Good Conduct medal with 9 reenlistment bars, the Meritorious Unit Commendation ribbon, the National Defense Service medal, the American Defense Service medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign medal, the American Campaign medal and the World War II Victory medal.
