Mary E. Carty of Middletown, DE passed away at Christiana Hospital on January 3, 2024, after a short illness. She was just shy of her 95th birthday.
Mrs. Carty was born on the family farm in Maryland on January 25, 1929, to the late William and Eva Cahall.
She was one of nine brothers and sisters. After her marriage, she lived in Middletown, Delaware. She was a lifetime member of Bethesda UMC. Mary would consider herself a homemaker, but she also worked for Acme Markets and did clerical work for the family plumbing business.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ralph B. Carty, Jr, her son, Michael A. Carty, and her brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, William R. Carty (Sharon), grandchildren, Jason Carty (Gwendolyn), Jennifer Martelli (Domenic), Kelley Carty (Quincy Griffin) and Erin Kyler (Eric), eleven great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Corinthia Carty, and Marjorie Ciunci, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at 12pm at Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE 19709. A viewing will be held from 11- 12pm.
Burial will follow in Odd Fellow Cemetery, Smyrna, DE.
