Knox County Farmer Failing a Year — Burial Was Monday.

William Pettit, a farmer, who with his family, came to Knox County from Illinois some twenty years ago, died at 4 o'clock Saturday morning at his home three miles northeast of Edina from heart disease. He had been in failing health and ailing a year, and seriously ill the last week. He was 72 years old.
Funeral services were conducted at 9 o'clock Monday morning in St. Joseph's Church here by the Rev. Terence Mullins, pasto.r Burial was in the new Catholic cemetery. Mr. Pettit having been converted to the Catholic faith about a year ago.
He is survived by his widow and three daughters and a son, another son, William Pettit, having died a few years ago. The living children are: Mrs. Louis Millmeyer of near Kenwood; Miss Grace Pettit at home; Mrs. John Clausen of Freeport, Ill.; Bert Pettit of north of Edina. Six brothers, three half-sisters and two half-brothers also survive.
William Joseph Pettit, a son of John and Margaret Wasson Pettit, was born at Wyoming, Ill., April 20, 1858. He married Miss Elizabeth Lawless in 1891, and to them were born five children.
Those from out of town attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Clausen of Freeport, Ill.; Miss Teresa Lawless, Mrs. Timothy Driscoll, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Pettit, Mrs. James Golby and son, William, all of Neponset, Ill.; Mrs Frank Doran of Ohio, Ill.; William Hanson of Princeton, Ill., and Mrs. Thomas Girvin of Kiwanee, Ill.
Shortly before the body of Mr. Pettit was taken from the home to the church Monday morning a flue burned out, threatening the house and scorching the wall paper and doing some other damage. The Edina fire department was called to handle the situation.
