Russell Hancel Joyner Sr., 80, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

He was born Dec. 17, 1920, in Gainesville, Fla., a son of the late Walter Raleigh Joyner and Iris Coulter Joyner.

He attended schools in Florida, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina. He was owner and operator of Joyner Transfer Co. and a member of Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Jean Cochran Joyner of Georgetown; two sons, Russell Hancel Joyner Jr. and his wife, Jan Raloff Joyner, and Eric Alan Joyner, all of Georgetown; two daughters, Barbara Joan Joyner Avery and her husband, Ray Neal Avery of Lincolnton, N.C., and Dana Lynn Joyner Moore and her husband, Kelly Wade Moore, of Georgetown; six grandchildren, Christopher Randall Joyner, Phillip Allan Joyner, Elizabeth Lynn Joyner, Ashley Claire Moore, Kelly Joan Moore, and Trey Alexander Moore, all of Georgetown; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at Mayer Funeral Home in Georgetown.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Herbert Memorial United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dennis J. Mardis will officiate. Burial will be in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.
