Mary Johnson Shue was born near Milledgeville, Ill., October 11, 1863, died February 6, 1901, near Beaver City, Nebr., aged 37 years and 4 months less 5 days.
She was married to Joseph Shue, near Humboldt, Nebr., February 4, 1881 and was the mother of five children all of whom together with a beloved husband and many near relatives are left to mourn the loss of a truly devoted wife, sister, and mother. But we weep not as those who have no hope.
Sister Shue gave her heart to God when quite young and united with the Brethren church at Falls City. She was a devoted Christian, an affectionate wife, and a tender-hearted mother. Her disease was dropsy and heart trouble. She was sick about nine months, then she bade farewell to all earthly sorrows to join loved ones gone before to rest in the sweet embrace of our dear Savior. Sister Shue selected II Timothy, iv, 7, 8, as a text for her funeral service, also hymns entitled, "Nearer My God to Thee,' and "Asleep in Jesus." The funeral services were held in the Brethren church, conducted by Rev. C. Forney and the remains were laid to rest in the Beaver City cemetery, February 8.
