Robert Taylor Gault was born in Williamson County Tennessee in 1840.He came to Texas with his family in 1851 on wagon train and settled in Travis county near Merrelltown. The family farmed there and and owned twelve thousand acres on what was called Gaults place.When the Civil War started Robert joined the Confederate States and served in the 5th Texas Calvary Mounted Volunteers,He married his first wife Polly Martha King after the war and they had two children together William Author and a daughter Susan. Polly and Susan died the same year in 1869. Leaving his son with relatives he served with the Frontier Texas Ranger in 1870 and served a year with company K as a LT.In 1872 he married his second wife Elizabeth Abercrombie. One son and four daughters was born to that union. In 1882 Robert moved the family to a farm on what is now the Fort Hood reservation.In 1888 he professed his faith in Christ and became a lay preacher in the Baptist church.In 1906 after a bout with cancer he passed away preceded the same year by Elizabeth.

Gravesite Details

In 1941 graved moved from Salem Cemetery to Killeen Cemetery. to make way for Fort Hood
