News of the sudden passing of Mrs. Kate Blood, of Winter Haven, Florida, was received with regret by friends in Stark county. Mrs. Blood’s death followed a period of declining health that extended over a number of months.
Mrs. Blood was born in Toulon, Illinois, October 15, 1849, the daughter of Oliver and Catharine Whitaker. On December 28, 1869, she was united in marriage with Henry F. Blood, of Stark, Illinois. In 1885 the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where they lived until 1888, when they moved to Winter Haven, then a tiny hamlet numbering only a few souls.
Mrs. Blood and her family became prominent with the growth of the city in church and community work. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian church and a leading factor in the building of the first church edifice.
Mrs. Blood is survived by three sons, Prescott Blood and Norman Blood, of Winter Haven, Florida, and Fred H. Blood, of New York City; one daughter, Mrs. W. H. Halsey, of Terra Ceia, Florida; one brother, Andrew J. Whitaker, of Washington, D. C.; and one sister, Mrs. Stella Mathews, of Los Angeles.
